Is she PM?

My AGT 4, who I got for my birthday in February of 2003, has been puzzling me lately. She has the copyright symbol, then "Pleasant Company" embossed on the back of her neck. The writing is larger than my 2001 Kit, and there are numbers with a slash written below the "Pleasant Company". I have heard some people on this board say that the numbers indicate a PM or first edition doll, so I just wanted to find out for sure. Is there anyone here that can help me? Thanks in advance!

Hmm - if she was bought new in 2003, I wouldn't think she'd be PM, but you can look at other things besides her neck to see if she is actually PM. Look for: soft eyelashes (shorter and lighter in color than the current eyelashes), absence of body tag (not always the case with PMs, however), chubby and huggably soft body, vinyl that is softer and more squeezable than the current dolls, particularly on the arms and legs. Someone in a recent post said the best place to test for soft vinyl is on the feet and ankles. I've also heard that PM dolls can be heavier than Mattel dolls, though I don't really notice that much difference between my Samantha and Nellie.

I look for the artist mark 1st. If it's not there, I assume the doll is not PM. From what I understand the original wax molds are destroyed while making the steel forms, and the steel wears away over time, so the mold becomes ineffective, and a new one has to be created. That's why some dolls, even with the same face mold look a bit different. It all depends on how 'fresh' the mold was when the doll was formed.
2nd, I've kinda figured out that the original molds had the lettering Pleasant Company in more of a casual style, rather than typewriting.
3rd, if the copywright sign is not in alignment with the lettering, it's an early mold. (PM)

Now, it gets tricky when the lettering is not casual, and the copywright is in alignment, I'll look for the artist mark behind the right ear.

When all else fails, and your'e not sure, look at the eyelashes. PC used modacrylic brown, soft eyelashes, Mattel uses a firmer black plastic eyelash.

If you're still not sure, press on the bottom of the foot, while holding the ankle. If you can squeeze the ankle at the same time, and it gives a little it is the softer vinyl, PM.

Her eyelashes seem more dark brown than black to me, and they are shorter than my 2005 Josefina's. The "Pleasant Company" on the back of her neck is in more "casual" lettering. The main thing I was wondering about is the numbers below the "Pleasant Company".

My mom's AGT 4 (Windy Johanna) has the same things you described and I bought her directly from AG, February 2004. I don't believe she's PM because her eyelashes are not the same as my PMs' and she doesn't have the same squishy limbs. I don't know what the numbers mean. I would love to know if there is some meaning to neck numbers, several (but not all) of my girls have numbers.

Neck markings are kind of interesting. My twins have noticeably different neck markings and I received them together from AG. Juliette's Pleasant Company letters are uneven and she has no numbers. Gabriella's Pleasant Company letters are perfectly uniform and she has a faint 47 C3 and an artist's mark behind her ear.
